DPP-4を阻害することで、サブスタンスPを増加させ、誤嚥性肺炎リスクを低下させると予測されるが、実際には誤嚥性肺炎リスクが増加していた。JADERのデータを使用した研究結果であるため、ノイズが多く、関連性は低いかもしれない。したがって現段階ではあくまでも相関関係がありそうということ。大規模な観察研究等で検証していく必要がある。
